Odisha Set for Major Rail Upgrade as 59 Stations Undergo Modern Reconstruction
Odisha is set for a major railway infrastructure boost as 59 stations undergo reconstruction under a central modernization drive. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said crores are being invested in stations like Baripada, Badampahar and Rairangpur to improve facilities and network capacity.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that reconstruction work is currently underway at 59 railway stations across Odisha. Under the ongoing program, stations are being redesigned and equipped with modern amenities to meet rising passenger demand and contemporary travel standards.
Highlighting specific projects, the minister said Baripada railway station is being redeveloped with an investment of ₹7 crore. Badampahar station has received a larger allocation of ₹12 crore, while Rairangpur station is undergoing upgrades worth ₹7 crore. The works include the construction and renovation of station buildings, platforms, circulating areas, and other essential passenger facilities.
According to the Railway Ministry, the redevelopment effort is focused on enhancing comfort, accessibility, and safety for travelers, while also strengthening the overall efficiency of the railway network in the region. Improved station infrastructure is expected to ease congestion, streamline passenger movement, and support future growth in rail traffic.
Officials emphasized that these upgrades are part of a long-term strategy to modernize railway assets and ensure that smaller and mid-sized stations are equipped to serve as reliable transit points. Once completed, the revamped stations are expected to play a key role in supporting economic activity, regional connectivity, and improved mobility across Odisha.
